BMW i is the beginning of a new world of mobility with visionary use of sustainable technology, innovative applications and smart services. It is a sub-brand of BMW and includes the vehicles produced under Project i. The first two production models of BMW i will be the battery electric BMW i3 and the plug-in hybrid BMW i8.
Concept versions of the i3 and i8 were presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the production of both the cars is scheduled to start in 2013.

The BMW i3 uses an electric motor that generates an output of 170 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in just under four seconds. The electric vehicle has a driving range between 85 and 100 miles on a single charge. The five door BMW i3 is 3845mm in length, 2011mm in width and 1537mm in height.
BMW i8:
The i8 is a plug-in hybrid powered by an eDrive drivetrain combining a high-performance electric motor and an internal combustion engine. It has a combined system output of up to 354 hp. Weighing just 3600 lbs, the i8 runs 0-100 km/h in five seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The fuel consumption is rated at 3 liter per 100 km.
