The width of the canyon at Grand Canyon Village is 16 km (rim to rim), though in places it is as much as 29 km wide.
Nearly five million people travel the Grand Canyon National Park each year. Most of the people first see the canyon from the South Rim with its dramatic views into the deep inner gorge of the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon boasts some of the nation's cleanest air, with visibility on clear days averaging 90 to 110 miles.
