2013 Porsche Cayman Bows with 275 HP, Starts at $53,550 – 2012 L.A The next-generation 2013 Porsche Cayman makes its official debut here at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show and, as expected, it features a design almost identical to that of the 2013 Boxster. Then again, the 2013 Cayman boasts better structural rigidity, a bit more power, and a slightly higher price: a base Cayman costs $53,550 while a Cayman S will carry a $64,750 MSRP.

The 2013 Porsche Cayman is tuned to produce 275 hp and 213 lb-ft of torque from its 2.7-liter boxer-six, which is 10 hp and 7 lb-ft more than the Boxster. Next is the 3.4-liter six-cylinder in the Cayman S with an output of 325 hp and 272 lb-ft, a bump of 10 hp and 7 lb-ft compared to the Boxster S. Performance numbers include an estimated 0-60 mph time of 5.1 and 4.6 seconds for the base and S models respectively (equipped with Sport Chrono dual-clutch automatic PDK). EPA-rated fuel economy on the 2013 Porsche Cayman has yet to be announced, but the 2013 Boxster’s mileage ranges from 22/32 mpg city/highway in base-engine PDK trim to 20/28 mpg in manual-transmission Boxster S trim.
The mechanical changes mirror the Boxster’s. Its 97.4-inch wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than the outgoing Cayman and the overall length grows 0.1 inches to 172.4 inches; height has been reduced from 51.3 inches to 50.9-51.0 inches. The new Cayman has also gone on a diet, lowering its curb weight to 2888 pounds (2954 with PDK) for the base model, which is lighter than the outgoing base model. The S equipped with a manual and PDK tips the scale at 2910 and 2976 pounds respectively. As we’ve experienced with the new Boxster, the changes should make the Cayman a more athletic track star.
It’ll also be better looking, too. We’re a fan of the Boxster’s integrated rear spoiler and the styling feature looks great on the Cayman as well. The front clip is new and the side view is similar to the outgoing model, save for a slightly reworked and larger air scoop. Inside, the Cayman receives the much improved design and materials we first saw in the Boxster. When the new Cayman goes on sale next spring, it will carry a price tag of $53,550 for the base model ($700 over the 2012 Cayman) and $64,750 for the S variant ($1700 over the 2012 Cayman S) including $950 for destination.
Also appearing at the show is the 911 Carrera 4, which we drove a few weeks ago. The 2012 L.A. show will also host the North American debut of the Panamera Platinum Edition, a flashier four-door  that should appeal to many Angelenos. The special package, available in Panamera and Panamera 4 models, includes platinum silver paint and exclusive features. Base price for the Panamera Platinum Edition is $81,475 and $85,575 for the rear- and all-wheel-drive models, respectively. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Panamera Platinum Edition go on sale early next year.
